ADDIE Design Model
ADDIE is the most popular model used among corporate Learning and Development trainers. As most modern design models, ADDIE is iterative — meaning course designs are sound and lend themselves well to a cycle of continuous improvement and revision.
The name is an acronym describing the sequential steps involved in the process: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. These steps are always followed in the same sequence every time and apply continual formative assessment throughout and after each design phase.
The mind map below illustrates these stages and includes examples of tasks to be completed at each step.
Note that the Rapid Resolution|Agile model is similar, but is called “Rapid” because designers use authoring tools and other technology to speed-up the process of design, while basically following ADDIE’s traditional sequence. Read about Rapid Resolution for eLearning on my Rapid | Agile page here.
